I received a call from the county Commissioners office about nine dead and abused animals on three different properties and would I just run by the properties and take a look and see what was going on, and talk to a complainant Mr. Ryan Rogers (801-644-8851) who had been discussing this with the commissioners, this I did. I received the addresses from the complainant, the first property I saw nothing, other than mounds’ of dirt, the second property, I saw some horses, and a trailer the horses were around it and they appeared to be eating from it, there didn’t seem to be any other feed or much in the way of food for the animals to be able to graze in the pasture. The third property I saw many cattle and horses and a similar condition of the property with the animals being given hamburger patties and hamburger buns. I called the health department and informed them that I had seen for myself that there were some dead animals on one of the properties and they said that they were just becoming aware of the situation, I also made a call to the animal control division and they informed me that they were aware of the situation. I returned to the office and Jim Gentry informed me that he had received a call from a Misty Rodgers (801 644-8851) and listened to animals being starved and abused he had given my name to her saying that I might be able to help. I went along to the attorney’s office to talk to Chris Allred about the situation he stated that it would be nice to wrap a big bow around the case and be able to make a big statement with charges coming from the Planning division for operating a feed lot, the Health department the proper disposal of dead carcasses, and cruelty, neglect and abuse of the animals. I also coordinated a meeting with the other agencies, and we visited the sites on Tuesday morning 27th September. There were four properties where dead carcasses were either laying on the ground or dirt was piled on top of the carcasses. There were two properties where there was neglect and abused animals, and two properties that had animals on them operating as a feed lot. I took photographs. I called the Rodgers and informed him that we had only seen one exposed carcass on the 700 North property, but we had seen mounds of dirt with legs and hoofs sticking out on the other properties so the Health Department will be addressing that and Animal control will address the cruelty, neglect and abuse of the animals. Commissioner Gibson has asked me to coordinate the efforts with all the agencies involved and to keep him apprised of the situation.
